About Blacklist Lookup

Blacklist Checker for IP Addresses

You can check to see if an IP address or email server IP has been blacklisted by any of the DNS-based blacklists. This helps you to determine IP reputation and spam email.

What does blacklisting an IP address mean?

This tool checks if the URL, IP address or IP of the email server is already listed in DNSBL. This database is used by email system providers to filter spam messages before they reach their end-users.

If your company uses email marketing to promote your product, and sends out thousands of emails, some recipients may mark the email as spam. Your IP could be placed on the IP blacklist. This should be avoided.

IP address blacklisting refers to the process of blocking or filtering out malicious or unlegitimate IP addresses from accessing your network. This happens when a web host company ignores your IP address. It happens when a web hosting company ignores your IP address. Any email you send is therefore blocked and filtered to spam.

One estimate suggests that email traffic is composed of around 80% spam emails. This overwhelming volume of spam emails leads to strict blacklisting practices that keep inboxes clean.

What is DNSBL?

DNSBL stands to Blacklist Domain Name System. The blacklist allows administrators to block messages from specific IP addresses that have a history sending spam messages. This list is based upon Internet's Domain Name System. It converts IP addresses into domain names, making it easier to understand.

Let's say that a blacklist maintainer has in the past received spam from a particular domain. It would add that server to its blacklist. All messages from this server would be flagged by websites using the blacklist to prevent spam and rejected. DNSBL is your first line of defense.

There are many DNSBLs online. Each one has its own rules and offensive categories. While spam is the most dangerous type, others focus on botnets and hacking. These DNSBLs are used by email administrators to verify that incoming mail is not originated or generated from an IP address on the blacklist.

What is SURBL?

SURBLThis is a list that shows websites that appear in unsolicited mail. This is the second line defense. However, not all spam filters can use it.

Spammers become more sophisticated over time and it is impossible to catch all spam messages. Email administrators use SURBLs to scan email messages to find any website addresses and compare it with the blacklists. If any address is found, the message will be treated as spam and/or handled according to the instructions.

Notice:It is fascinating to see that websites included in unsolicited mail are more frequently used than the constantly changing botnet IP addresses that were used to send the vast majority. If your IP address has been blacklisted by an email marketing company or an administrator of an email system, you will need to work with different DNSBLs and SURBLs in order to remove it from the blacklist.

How does an IP blacklist work with an Email service

It is easy.

  • Let's say you want to send an email starting atMarketing@xyz.comTo some user Mike.
  • Mike's mail server will find the sender's IP address, and resolve it into the domain.
  • Mike's mail server checks the domain as well as the sender's IP address from the IP/domain database.
  • Your email may be blacklisted if the domain or IP is blocked. The message will not be scanned and will land in Mike's junk/spam mail folder.
  • If an IP or domain is already on the repetitive spam sender lists, ISP spam filters will reject the message. This means that it won't reach Mike's spam folder.

What is the reason my IP address has been blacklisted?

A blacklist is an IP address database that contains IP addresses believed to be spammers. These IP addresses can be blocked, routed to spam folders or dealt with accordingly.

Your IP could be on one blacklist or several backlists. There is no central authority to do this. Each blacklist has its own criteria and management.

There are many reasons your IP may be on the blacklist.

  1. Blacklisting an IP address is mainly caused by malware, viruses, and spam email sending.
  2. Your IP address will be blacklisted if your mail server isn't properly configured, which can result in spam being sent, or you deliberately send spam.
  3. Perhaps you attempted to buy email lists from a third-party that contained spam or incorrect email addresses.
  4. Most email receivers will mark your email spam.
  5. Your email account was hacked and used for spammy purposes.
  6. You might also find your IP on the blacklist, even though you have not done anything wrong. This is often the case when you have a DHCP address. The majority of blacklist maintainers automatically add the IP address that was assigned via DHCP from ISP. Although you may not be spamming, it is possible that someone else had your IP address and was using it for spamming activities. Only your ISP can tell you who had the IP address before they assigned it to you.
  7. A search engine blacklist can list your website, which is something that no legitimate website would want. This can happen for many reasons.
    • Backlinks are being received from spammy websites if your website is not spammy.
    • Your website may be used to hack other websites.
    • It will disappear from the internet once the website has been added to the blacklist of the search engine.

How to use the IP Blacklist and Email Blacklist. Check your IP status, or do an IP blacklist lookup.

Many online tools and websites can be used to check whether the URL, IP address or email server IP has been listed with DNSBL and SURBL systems.

  • Check your IP status and perform an IP blacklist search.
  • Open the IP Blacklist Lookup Tool
  • Enter the URL, IP address or IP address of the email server IP address that you wish to verify the status.
  • Click the "Check in Blacklists” button.
  • It will take between 20 and 40 seconds for the IP blacklist search to be completed. Once it is complete, the tool will display the results.
  • If your IP is on the blacklist, it will say "Yes" to that blacklist.

Notice:We are not affiliated with any blacklist and do not manage, operate, or have any affiliation with it. This is a one-stop platform that allows you to check the status of an IP address on third-party blacklists. We don't recommend any particular blacklist or condone blacklists that are subject to payment. These blacklists are included for completeness only and should not be used in support of their usage.

How can you get off the blacklist? What do I do if my IP is blacklisted.

  1. First, make sure your system is free from viruses and malware. Also, ensure that no unauthorized traffic is being sent to your system. Contact the IP blacklisting organization to find out more.
  2. Examine why your IP address was added to their blacklist. Most blacklists provide general listing reasons. Each one must be checked.
  3. Most blacklists allow you to submit a request for removal. Every blacklist offers a different method to submit a removal request.
  4. This is an effort on your part to remove the request. This does not necessarily mean that the Blacklist administrator will honor your request.

What happens if my IP address is still on a blacklist

  1. Your IP address is most likely blacklisted because it has been reported. This means that you have been blacklisted for sending spam email.
  2. It would make little difference if your IP address is on the blacklist if you are a home user.
  3. If you own a business, or have a mail server you must delist IP addresses. You can check your system to make sure it is free of viruses or malware and that your mail server is properly configured.
